Winter

ID: #2211 | Renaissance | Still life

Date: 16th century
Medium: oil on canvas
Location: Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria

This painting depicts an anthropomorphic motif where plant elements create the illusion of a human face. It looks like a tree trunk with roots and leaves growing out of a basket. The features of the face are distinct, such as the eyes, nose and mouth, although they are created by the natural curves and textures of the wood and plants. A single fruit hangs in the lower right, while the entire image has a dark background, enhancing the details and texture of the wooden face.
