Absinthe Drinker

ID: #955 | Kubism | Abstract

This painting shows a scene with a figure of a person sitting at a table. The person has his head resting on his hands in a gesture of deep thought or sadness. On the table is a blue bottle and glass, suggesting the simple setting of an inn or cafe. The background of the painting is an orange wall with an indistinct reflective object. The colour scheme is warm with the exception of the blue tint of the bottle and the figure's clothing, which contrasts with the orange background. The painting style is expressive with rough strokes and simplified forms.

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973). The son of a professor of painting, whose work includes the entire pilgrimage of modern painting. He created a new style - Cubism - which appeared to various degrees in all his works. The spectrum of his paintings is very diverse (at least 40 different creative periods were identified) and expansive (representing some 35000 pieces). It is therefore impossible to place Picasso in some imaginary pigeonhole. It makes no sense to name his famous works, there are hundreds of them, but it is worth mentioning probably the most famous: Guernica (bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War). This painting is a synthesis of all the art periods - Realism, the blue and pink periods, Cubism, Surrealism, Expressionism, etc., a cry against the trampling of basic human values that is distinctly timeless and unfortunately still valid today.
