Maurice Brazil Prendergast, a member of the group Eight. He was born in Halifax but moved to the US where he studied. In 1893, he visited France and Spain, where he painted landscapes -
Sunset in Spain. He learned to paint in the open air and exhibited two images. After returning to the United States, he began to develop his own style. He painted views in his neighbourhood:
High Bridge. In 1917, he was appointed a member of the Canadian Club of Art and won many awards at exhibitions. Many artists considered him to be the greatest American landscape artist. He spent his old age in Florida and, despite his deteriorating health conditions and depression, he painted breath-taking landscapes
Spring. He drowned under mysterious circumstances, some sources suggest that he suffered a heart attack while swimming, others say that he committed suicide.
